Open Day at EAGIT a resounding success

27/07/09

The Open Day hosted at EAGIT last week on Wednesday the 22nd was a resounding success with over 300 people attending.  Attendance by company representatives was also extremley high amongst the visitors which also consisted of potential apprentices and their parents.  One gentleman even came for a look around as he had been a learner here in 1968 as part of the second cohort of apprentices to ever be trained at EAGIT.

Stands and displayes were hosted by ATB Laurence Scott, C-Mac, Haas Automation, connexions, KLM, JTL, Panks Engineering, Business Link, and Lintott Control Systems.  There was lots of interest from

Ashley Searle and Brandon Self - two of the Advanced Apprentices man the stand of their sponsoring company - ATB Laurence Scott

Bob Anderson from Lotus brought a Tri-Fuel car along to the event which generated a lot of interest.

Other activities were a demonstartion from KLM which covered areas of aircraft fabrication and maintenance (pictures below).

In unit 5 we had a Nintendo Wii set up with a Physics programme playing games which

enhance learning about gravity. The IT room there was also opened so that anybody could try the EAGIT initial assessment test. As well as parents who had a go, twenty three potential apprentices took the EAGIT selection test and went away with their results. In all, despite fears about the current swine flu spread, which kept a few potential participants away, the whole day was extremley successful. Both Malcolm Batley of Broadland Products and Katie Walls of Walker Rubber both said that they were really impressed as they hadn't realised the breadth of areas which EAGIT cover in their training.
