Bright future ahead for ATB Laurence Scott

EAGIT helps ATB Laurence Scott prepare for a brighter future.

After a turbulent few years, Norwich-based Laurence Scott is now looking ahead to a bright future since being acquired by European electrical engineering group, ATB. The company, still located at its Gothic Works in Hardy Road where it started life in 1896, ran into cash-flow problems last May, and in spite of a full order book, administrators were called in.

Since the ATB takeover, however, things have really started looking up, and it’s a sign of confidence in the company’s future that ATB Laurence Scott recently approached EAGIT to take on their first apprentice in five years.  After interviewing several candidates, they selected Karim Amin, who was at that time on an electrical level 2 apprenticeship at EAGIT’s training centre.   Karim has quickly settled into his new role within the Winding Shop.  His manager Roger Townsend says, ‘We are very pleased with Karim.  He is a likeable lad and very keen to work hard and prove his worth.  We are very keen to offer him all the support we can to progress his career as an electrical engineer.’   Roger also went on to say that such is the positive and upbeat feel to the working environment at ATB Laurence Scott that they would soon be looking to start other engineering apprenticeships with EAGIT.

The oldest apprentice… Karim’s career is being developed under the watchful eye of another Laurence Scott former apprentice and current Winder – Mr Barry Dingle.  Barry started his apprenticeship 46 years ago, at the age of 16, when the company used to train 40 to 50 youngsters every year. He is now the company’s longest-serving employee, and the proud upholder of a tradition spanning four generations. Barry’s grandfather was Mr. Scott’s chauffeur/gardener and handyman. His father too spent his whole working life at Laurence Scotts, and his son has also followed him into the business. It’s hard to imagine that anyone could be better qualified to show Karim the ropes and to guide his career.
